About the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) :
- The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high-quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.
- The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.
About the position :
- Australia and Indonesia have an effective development partnership that is boosting economic growth and tackling poverty, improving health and education outcomes, and strengthening democracy, justice and governance.
- Under the direction of the First Secretary (Economic), the Junior Economic Analyst will support the economic, trade and investment agenda of the Embassy, by providing research, data statistics, media reports and updates on regulations relevant to the economic, trade and investment climate in Indonesia. The officer will also assist to organise events, high-level meetings and other administrative tasks as required.
- The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to :
- Undertake quantitative and qualitative analysis, provide statistical data and prepare draft policy documentation on Australia-Indonesia economic, trade and investment-related issues
- Provide support to senior researchers and policy managers in the section to produce research reports, summary analysis and economic factsheets
- Assistsenior researchers and policy managers in the section on Indonesia’s trade policy, as well as bilateral and multilateral trade issues, including progress on trade negotiations.
- Undertake research to identify statistical trends for trade and investment data
- Support the economic, trade and investment section in building network with economic stakeholders.
- Work as part of a team to arrange and coordinate events and high-level meetings and provide broad administrative support as required.
Qualifications/Experience :
- Strong research and analytical skills, and experience in a similar role
- Strong understanding and knowledge of economic, trade and investment issues in Indonesia
- Experience with data analysis and presentation tools, i.e. Excel, PowerBI
- Tertiary qualifications in economics/international relations/public policy, or related field
- Strong written and oral communication skills in English and Indonesian
